18 Killed and 7 Injured in Deadly Swat Expressway Accident

A catastrophic road accident on the Swat Expressway has killed 18 people and injured seven others in one of the deadliest single-vehicle or multi-vehicle collisions recorded on the key artery connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the Swat Valley. Emergency services responded to the scene and transported the injured to hospitals in the region.

The Swat Expressway, one of KP's most heavily utilised intercity roads particularly during peak travel periods, has been the site of multiple fatal accidents in recent years owing to a combination of overspeeding, overloading, inadequate vehicle maintenance, and limited roadside barriers and safety infrastructure in certain sections.

Rescue 1122, KP police, and district administration officials rushed to the crash site to manage the casualty evacuation and secure the area. Families of the deceased were being notified, and the cause of the accident was under investigation by traffic and transport authorities.

The tragedy is expected to intensify demands for stricter enforcement of traffic laws on high-speed expressways, particularly ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha period when road traffic across KP typically surges. Punjab's Chief Minister had earlier the same day ordered bus safety inspections, and the Swat incident underscores the urgency of such measures across all provinces.
