BOI Minister Meets Chinese Counsellor to Advance CPEC Phase-II Investment

Board of Investment Minister Qaisar Ahmad Sheikh met with the Chinese Counsellor in Islamabad to discuss measures for enhancing investment cooperation under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The meeting centred on identifying new areas of collaboration and addressing bottlenecks that may be impeding the inflow of Chinese capital into Pakistan.

CPEC Phase-II represents an evolution from infrastructure-heavy first-phase projects toward industrial cooperation, technology transfer, agriculture modernisation, and special economic zone development. Both sides are understood to have reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives and explored priority sectors for accelerated engagement.

The BOI minister's outreach reflects Islamabad's effort to maintain momentum in the bilateral economic relationship at a time when Pakistan is actively seeking foreign direct investment to support economic stabilisation. Chinese investment under CPEC remains one of the most significant components of Pakistan's FDI strategy.

Officials indicated that follow-up consultations are planned to move from broad commitment to specific project-level action plans, with timelines expected to be formalised in the near term.
