Cleric Killing in Charsadda Sparks Probe, Governor Seeks Report

Police in Charsadda have obtained CCTV footage linked to the killing of Maulana Muhammad Idrees, a prominent Islamic scholar, and formed a special investigation team to fast-track the case, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The targeted killing of the cleric has sent shockwaves through religious circles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The KP Governor formally expressed grief over the scholar's death and sought an urgent report from the relevant authorities, signalling that the case has attracted attention at the highest levels of provincial governance. Federal Minister Amir Muqam also condoled the death of Maulana Idrees, describing him as a revered figure whose loss was a blow to the scholarly community.

President Asif Zardari, in a separate statement, vowed to eliminate terrorism from Pakistan and expressed his condolences to the family and followers of the slain cleric. The president's remarks underlined the gravity with which the federal government views the deteriorating security environment in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
