FIA Arrests Passenger Recruited to Join Online Scamming Network in Laos

The Federal Investigation Agency has arrested a passenger at a Pakistani airport after establishing that the individual was travelling to Laos with the intent to work for an organised online scamming network, in a case that highlights the growing problem of Pakistani nationals being lured into transnational cyber fraud operations.

The arrest is part of FIA's intensified surveillance operations targeting human trafficking and organised cybercrime networks that recruit Pakistani workers — often through false employment promises — to operate fraud call centres in Southeast Asian countries including Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.

Victims of such recruitment schemes are frequently subjected to coercive working conditions, including detention, physical abuse, and forced participation in cyber fraud targeting individuals globally. The FIA has been working with international partners to disrupt these networks and intercept potential victims before departure.

Authorities have urged citizens to verify employment opportunities through official channels before travelling abroad, particularly for positions offering unusually high remuneration for call centre or online work in Southeast Asian locations.
