The minister's announcement follows concerns raised about financial management and oversight lapses in programmes funded through the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, a major multilateral health financing mechanism through which Pakistan receives substantial public health support.
Pakistan's HIV epidemic has been a subject of serious concern, with Pakistan among the countries experiencing some of the fastest-growing HIV rates in Asia.
