Lahore Board Introduces Automated System for Practical Examinations

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Lahore has introduced an automated system for conducting practical examinations, marking the first time such technology has been deployed by the board for this category of assessment. The system is designed to reduce human error, minimise opportunities for malpractice, and bring greater standardisation to practical exam scheduling and result processing.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort to modernise examination infrastructure across Punjab's secondary education system, which has faced persistent criticism over irregularities in practical assessments, where subjective marking and administrative inconsistencies have historically disadvantaged students. Automation of the scheduling and evaluation pipeline is expected to address several of these structural weaknesses.

Board officials indicated that the system would initially be deployed for science subjects, with plans to expand coverage to other disciplines in subsequent examination cycles. The move is expected to affect thousands of students appearing in practical components of matriculation and intermediate examinations across Lahore.

Education reform advocates have broadly welcomed the development, noting that credible practical assessments are essential to the integrity of STEM education outcomes at the secondary level. The success of the Lahore Board's rollout may serve as a model for replication by other provincial examination boards.
