PAFDA Launches Advanced Labs for Food, Drug and Cosmetics Safety Testing
The Pakistan Food and Drug Authority (PAFDA) has unveiled state-of-the-art laboratory facilities designed for the testing and quality control of food products, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical drugs, in a significant upgrade to the country's public health safety infrastructure.
The Director General of PAFDA said the new laboratories represent a transformative investment in Pakistan's capacity to detect adulterated, substandard, or harmful products before they reach consumers. The facilities are equipped with modern analytical instruments capable of conducting a wide range of chemical, microbiological, and toxicological tests.
Pakistan has long faced challenges around the quality and safety of consumer products, with instances of adulteration in food and counterfeit medicines posing documented health risks. The establishment of dedicated high-capacity testing labs is intended to address systemic gaps in the regulatory enforcement chain.
The DG noted that the expanded laboratory network would not only strengthen enforcement capabilities but also support industry compliance by providing accessible testing services. The development is expected to contribute to reducing the health burden associated with unsafe consumer products across the country.
