Pakistan and Turkiye Pledge Deeper Defence Collaboration: ISPR

Pakistan and Turkiye have reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced defence collaboration, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The announcement follows high-level military exchanges between the two countries that underscored the depth of their bilateral defence relationship, which spans joint training, equipment cooperation, and strategic coordination.

ISPR confirmed that discussions covered areas of mutual defence interest, including joint exercises, defence industrial cooperation, and intelligence sharing frameworks. The two countries have in recent years significantly expanded their military cooperation, with Pakistan acquiring Turkish-origin unmanned aerial systems and both militaries engaging in regular bilateral exercises.

The renewed pledge comes at a moment when both nations are actively diversifying their defence partnerships. Turkiye, a NATO member navigating complex relationships with Western allies, has positioned itself as a leading defence exporter to Muslim-majority countries, with Pakistan among its most significant partners.

For Islamabad, deepening ties with Ankara carries strategic value beyond hardware procurement. Pakistan and Turkiye maintain broad alignment on issues including Kashmir, Palestine, and multilateral Islamic cooperation. Defence-level coordination reinforces those political ties and provides Pakistan with an important non-Western technology transfer avenue.
