Pakistan PM reaffirms commitment to global peace on Youm-e-Takbeer

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif marked Youm-e-Takbeer — the anniversary of Pakistan's 1998 nuclear tests — by reiterating the country's steadfast commitment to global peace and regional stability. The annual observance commemorates Pakistan's emergence as a declared nuclear power and holds significant symbolic weight in national defence discourse.

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi also addressed the occasion, characterising Youm-e-Takbeer as a symbol of Pakistan's defence capabilities and sovereignty. Both statements reflect the government's consistent messaging that Pakistan's nuclear deterrent is defensive in nature and anchored in a commitment to peace.

Youm-e-Takbeer, observed on 28 May, has particular resonance this year given heightened tensions in the region following recent confrontations along the eastern border. Officials across the political spectrum have used the occasion to signal national resolve and institutional cohesion.

Barrister Danyal Chaudhry separately described the day as a golden chapter in Pakistan's history, underscoring the cross-party consensus on the significance of nuclear capability as a cornerstone of national security policy.
