Sajid Sadpara Conquers Makalu Without Supplemental Oxygen

Pakistani mountaineer Sajid Sadpara has successfully summited Makalu, the world's fifth highest peak at 8,485 metres, without the use of supplemental oxygen — a feat that marks a significant achievement in high-altitude climbing and underscores Pakistan's enduring tradition of producing elite alpinists.

Sadpara's ascent adds to the growing legacy of Pakistani climbers who have tackled the world's most demanding peaks under extreme conditions. Makalu, straddling the Nepal-Tibet border, is regarded as one of the most technically challenging eight-thousanders due to its sharp ridgelines and steep faces.

The achievement draws particular resonance given the Sadpara family's storied history in mountaineering, following the legacy of the late Muhammad Ali Sadpara, who perished on K2 in 2021. Sajid has continued to build an independent record of high-altitude ascents, cementing his reputation as one of Pakistan's foremost climbers.

The summit has been received with widespread national pride, with mountaineering circles noting that oxygen-free ascents at extreme altitude represent the most demanding benchmark in the sport.
