UAE Air Defences Engage Iranian Missiles and Drones
The United Arab Emirates has confirmed that its air defence systems are actively engaging missile and drone attacks launched from Iran, marking one of the most direct military confrontations between the two Gulf neighbours in recent history. UAE authorities stated that air defences have been deployed to intercept the incoming projectiles.
The attack represents a severe escalation in the Iran-Gulf standoff, moving beyond proxy engagements and shipping threats to a direct military strike on UAE territory. The confirmation by UAE authorities signals that the regional crisis, already at elevated intensity, has entered a new and more dangerous phase.
Gulf financial markets reacted sharply to the development, with share indices across the region slipping as investors priced in heightened security risk and the prospect of broader conflict. Oil markets and global shipping are also on alert given the UAE's centrality to regional trade and energy infrastructure.
For Pakistan, the attack carries acute significance. Millions of Pakistani workers reside in the UAE, and bilateral remittance flows, trade ties, and energy imports are deeply intertwined with Gulf stability. Islamabad has thus far maintained a position of restraint in the Iran-Gulf dispute but will face mounting pressure to respond diplomatically as the crisis deepens.
