Zardari Seeks Deeper China Ties in Seed Technology and Agricultural Research

President Asif Ali Zardari, currently on a state visit to China, has expressed Pakistan's strong interest in forging closer collaboration with Beijing in the fields of seed technology and agricultural research. The overture signals Islamabad's intent to leverage China's advanced agri-science capabilities to modernise Pakistan's agriculture sector, which remains the backbone of the national economy.

The expression of interest came during high-level engagements in Beijing, where Zardari held discussions with Chinese counterparts on bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. Agricultural productivity and food security have become increasingly urgent priorities for Pakistan amid persistent inflationary pressures and climate-related crop disruptions.

Seed technology is considered a critical frontier in agricultural modernisation, with China having made significant advances in hybrid seed development, pest-resistant varieties, and yield optimisation.
