KE and Sindh CM Murad Issue Heatwave Warnings for Karachi
K-Electric has urged Karachi residents to take precautionary measures as an intense heatwave tightens its grip on the city, warning of elevated health risks and urging citizens to limit outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours. The utility also advised conservation of electricity to prevent grid stress during the high-demand period.
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah convened a review meeting and directed relevant departments to implement emergency measures to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heatwave. He called for the activation of heatstroke centres at public hospitals and instructed authorities to ensure uninterrupted water supply across vulnerable neighbourhoods.
The heatwave is part of a broader pre-monsoon weather pattern affecting much of southern Pakistan, with temperatures in Karachi expected to remain significantly above seasonal averages for the coming days. Health officials have placed particular emphasis on protecting the elderly, children, and outdoor labourers.
Public health messaging has been intensified across multiple platforms, urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid sun exposure between 11am and 4pm, and seek immediate medical attention in cases of heatstroke symptoms. The city's civil administration has been placed on standby to respond to any weather-related emergencies.
