NDMA Issues Heatwave Alert for Pakistan Through May 5
The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a formal heatwave alert for Pakistan, warning that severe and swinging weather conditions are expected to persist through May 5. The alert highlights the risk of extreme heat across multiple regions of the country, with vulnerable populations including agricultural workers, daily labourers, and the elderly at heightened risk. NDMA has urged provincial authorities and emergency services to pre-position resources, activate heat emergency protocols, and disseminate public health advisories. The warning reflects a broader pattern of intensifying weather extremes in Pakistan, a country ranked among the most climate-vulnerable in the world, and comes as the government simultaneously prepares for the imminent monsoon season.
