Pakistan Launches Climate Prosperity Plan to Drive Green Economic Growth
Pakistan has formally launched the 'Pakistan Climate Prosperity Plan', a policy framework intended to align the country's economic development trajectory with climate resilience objectives and green growth imperatives. The plan marks a significant policy moment as Islamabad seeks to position itself as a proactive actor in the global climate governance landscape.
The plan outlines a roadmap for transitioning key economic sectors — including energy, agriculture, and industry — toward lower-carbon pathways, while simultaneously attracting international climate finance and green investment. Officials framing the initiative have emphasised its dual mandate of environmental sustainability and economic development.
Pakistan is among the countries most acutely vulnerable to climate change impacts, having experienced devastating floods, droughts, and glacial lake outburst events in recent years. The Climate Prosperity Plan represents an attempt to translate vulnerability into a platform for structured international engagement and financial mobilisation.
The plan is expected to underpin Pakistan's interactions with international climate finance institutions and bilateral green investment partners. Stakeholders welcomed the initiative but cautioned that implementation discipline and transparent monitoring mechanisms would be essential to its credibility.
