PM Shehbaz Directs Authorities to Prepare for Upcoming Monsoon Season

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to review the government's preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season and to direct relevant authorities to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to counter climate-related threats. The Prime Minister instructed federal and provincial agencies to ensure early warning systems, emergency response mechanisms, and flood mitigation infrastructure are fully operational ahead of the season. The meeting comes against the backdrop of Pakistan's severe vulnerability to climate-induced flooding, which caused catastrophic damage and loss of life in recent years. NDMA has separately issued a heatwave alert extending to May 5, underscoring the intensity and frequency of extreme weather events now confronting the country.
