PMD Issues Severe Weather Warning for Pakistan from May 2 to 5
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a formal warning for dust-thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hailstorms expected to affect multiple regions across Pakistan from May 2 to May 5. The advisory urges authorities and the public to take precautionary measures as the weather system is projected to be widespread and potentially damaging.
PMD's warning covers a four-day window during which severe convective activity is expected, with the risk of flash floods, crop damage, and disruption to urban infrastructure in vulnerable areas. Hailstorms in particular pose a significant threat to standing crops in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where farmers are in the midst of harvest cycles for wheat and other produce.
Provinces prone to flash flooding, including Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have been placed on heightened alert. Disaster management authorities have been advised to pre-position response resources and coordinate with local administrations to ensure early evacuation in flood-risk zones.
The severe weather forecast comes at a climatically sensitive period and adds pressure on agricultural supply chains already strained by market volatility. Citizens in affected areas have been advised to avoid open spaces, secure loose structures, and follow guidance from local administrations during the forecast period.
